The Playbook of a virtuous being
The Playbook of a virtuous being is a cross-media publication inspired by Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Discourse on the Arts and Sciences. Rousseau reflects on how far the eighteenth-century man has drifted from virtue, a condition still very familiar today. This project connects his ideas to contemporary examples, creating a modern reflection on what it means to be virtuous in the twenty-first century. It exists in two parts: the analog half, a book combining Rousseau’s text with layers of simplification and mantras to live more virtuously, and the digital half, a website that expands on each mantra with relevant modern sources. Through overlays, inserts, and type changes, the Playbook turns a complex text into an interactive and accessible experience. The book was designed in Adobe InDesign, while the website was prototyped in Figma and later coded using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
