The Grounded Sound Alphabet
The Grounded Sound Alphabet explores what happens when sound and type become one. By rubbing leftover coffee grounds on various surfaces to mimic the 44 phonemes of the English language, the project transforms sound into a visual language. This creates a language that can be read, heard, or left intentionally cryptic, inviting designers and viewers to slow down and interact. Built on the International Phonetic Alphabet, each sound stays consistent across words. Perfect for graphic or sound design, kinetic posters, or anywhere type and sound intersect, the project offers a playful, hands-on alternative to standard typography. The final outcome includes the audio and svg files for the alphabet, a decryption poster and its own Webflow-designed website.
